Natural Color Aerial Photography (NAIP)
|
|
NAIP imagery products are available either as quarter quad tiles, 7.5
minute quad areas, or as compressed county mosaics. The mosaics are
generated by compressing digital quarter quadrangle image tiles scanned
from natural color positive or color infrared positive aerial film into
a single mosaic.
Typically, these photos are VERY recent with acquisition dates of
2005-2007. The mosaic may cover all or portions of an
individual final product. Each individual image tile within the mosaic
covers a 3.75 x 3.75 minute quarter quadrangle plus a 300 meter buffer
on all four sides. All individual tile images and the resulting mosaic
were rectified to the UTM coordinate system, NAD 83 and cast into a
single predetermined UTM zone. Contractually, every attempt will be made
to comply with the 10% cloud cover per quarter quad tile, weather
conditions permitting.

Digital Orthophoto Quarter Quadrangles
|
|
A digital orthophoto quadrangle (DOQ) is a computer-generated image of an aerial photograph in which image displacement caused by terrain relief and camera tilts has been removed. It combines the image characteristics of a photograph with the geometric qualities of a map.
The standard DOQ’s produced by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) are either grayscale or color-infrared (CIR) images with a 1-meter ground resolution; they cover an area measuring 3.75- minutes longitude by 3.75-minutes
latitude, approximately 5 miles on each side or a quarter of a USGS
7.5 minute quad. Each DOQ has between 50 and 300 meters of overedge image beyond the latitude and longitude corner crosses embedded in the image. This overedge facilitates tonal matching and
mosaicking of adjacent images. All DOQ’s are referenced to the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD83) and cast on the Universal Transverse Mercator
(UTM) projection. Primary (NAD83) and secondary (NAD27) datum coordinates for the upper left pixel are included in the header to allow users to spatially reference other digital data with the
DOQ.
