Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Services
|
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) A geographic information system (GIS) is a system for management, analysis, and display of spatial knowledge. A GIS links location (spatial) and database (tabular) information enabling the visualization of patterns, relationships, and trends. GIS technology can be used for development planning, resource management, scientific investigations, asset management, route planning, and cartography. The GIS group at DDS, Inc. has expertise in all areas of spatial related technologies. Our staff members are skilled in the complete ESRI suite of GIS software including ArcInfo, ArcView, MapObjects, and ArcIMS, as well as MapInfo, PETRA, and Manifold. Our technological “know-how”, keen eye for detail, and natural creative instincts formulate the right skills, abilities, and attitudes to utilize GIS in a capacity that best serves our clients’ needs. DDS, Inc. has a large customer base (over 3,000 companies) that continues to utilize our GIS services.

The GIS Layers Model
|
- GIS Management Consulting : Enterprise level GIS strategy, planning, and implementation.
- Georeferencing: Rectifying images and vector data to a real-world coordinate system.
- Map Creation Services : Custom maps designed from client supplied materials, databases, data analysis and/or existing spatial datasets. Maps are frequently created for marketing, real-estate development, energy exploration, or publication.
- Spatial Data: Provide "off-the-shelf" data products such as street data, aerial photography, satellite imagery, topographic maps, elevation data, land ownership, etc.
- Data Creation : Create GIS ready datasets from client supplied maps, AutoCAD files, ownership descriptions, demographic parameters, addresses, GPS collected data points, etc.
- Data Conversion : Convert data from one or more disparate formats. Common formats we support are; ESRI, MapInfo, AutoCAD, Microstation, Excel, and XYZ.
- Reprojection Services : Transform data to a new map projection or rubbersheet to match existing data.
- Geocoding (address matching)/ Reverse-Geocoding: Creation of x/y locations from addresses and vice-versa.
- Database Design: Create customized databases for your specific application. Import client supplied data to create maps. Client locations, custom sales territories, and route maps are tailored to your needs
- Data Modeling / Analysis: Derive useful information from spatial data. Provide analysis for routing, finding suitable locations based on supplied criteria, mapping distances, cost weighted analysis, neighborhood and zonal statistic functions, contour modeling, slope calculations, and performing surface analysis.
- Applications Development: Custom ArcGIS® Application Development Using ArcObjects™, Visual Basic, and C++
- Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG): An inexpensive alternative for publishing, "GIS-like" interactive maps.
- Custom Google Earth/Google Map Applications: Digital Data Services, Inc. can create custom web-based map applications utilizing your information into Google Earth™ and Google Maps™.

Colorado Mine Locations
Client:
Colorado Division of Mines and Geology
Pupose:
The objective of this project was to provide digital GIS files of a substantial number of abandoned mines in the state of Colorado . This data would be used by miners, geologists, contractors and other entities to safely plan and route around these abandoned mine shafts. This data was also used for land reclamation.
Processes/Services:
Digital Data Services, Inc obtained over 200 oversized historical paper maps from the Colorado Division of Mines and Geology. The documents were scanned on our large format scanner and georeferenced into a known coordinate system using either coordinates specified on the maps, or by pinning down to identifiable features. The georeferenced images were then digitized into vector coverages and attributed for GIS systems. Attributes included; mine names, well numbers, and coal seams designations.
Deliverable to Client:
ArcGIS .shp files
Cost:
$50,000+, ongoing project

Well Location Database Creation
Client:
IHS Energy Group
Pupose:
To provide IHS with surface elevation heights for over 3 million current and historic petroleum and gas well locations.
Processes/Services:
IHS provided DDS with over 3 million well locations in a database format. DDS converted the database into GIS features, and by comparing the data with the National Elevation Dataset (DEM Data), was able to assign the wells an elevation attribute based on their spatial location. The project was delivered ahead of the scheduled time.
Deliverable to Client:
Microsoft Access Database
Cost:
$7,800

Custom GIS
Client:
Alameda Water & Sanitation District
Pupose:
Alameda Water & Sanitation District provides water and sewer services for approximately 500 customers in Lakewood, CO. Digital Data Services, Inc. was tasked with creating a geodatabase using disparate data sets. The intended purpose was to be able to create ad-hoc maps in house for engineers to use in the field as well as identify those affected by scheduled maintence or infrastructure issues.
Processes/Services:
The first step in creating the GDB was to clean up and conflate the data aquired from the different sources. DDS. worked with AW&SD to identify what fields were needed for each feature type. DDS digitized water main locations from existing engineering maps. The mains were attributed with length, diameter and grade. Newly aquired survey date of meters and vales wasa added to the GDB. As needed data was reprojected into State Plane Colorado Central FIPS 0502 NAD 83. DDS also supplied AW&SD with custom clipped high resolution aerials of their service area.
Upon delivery of the project DDS provided a series of training sessions to familarize the users with the data and tasks nescessary to create ad hoc maps and querys for specific needs.
Deliverable to Client:
.ArcGIS .shp files in a geodatabase Hard Copy Mapbook of service area
Cost:
$7,000, ongoing project
