| Overview-
NWI Data |
|
Through the National Wetlands Inventory, the
USFWS has developed a series of topical maps to show wetlands and deepwater habitats. These maps have been used extensively to make resource management decisions at the federal, state and local government levels.
The goal of the National Wetlands Inventory is to provide
current geospatially referenced information on the status, extent, characteristics and functions of wetland, riparian, deepwater and related aquatic habitats in priority areas to promote the understanding and conservation of these resources.

|
| Data Source
and Accuracy |
| The wetland maps are graphic representations of the type, size and location of the wetlands and deepwater habitats in the United States. These maps have been prepared from the analysis of high altitude imagery in conjunction with collateral data sources and field work. The maps represent reconnaissance level information on the location, type, size of wetlands habitats such that they are accurate at the nominal scale of the 1:24,000 base map and the 1:63,360 base map for Alaska. A margin of error is inherent in the use of imagery; thus, detailed on-the-ground inspection of any particular site, may result in revision of the wetland boundaries or classification established through image analysis.

NWI Maps |
|
Digital Data Services, Inc. uses
on-screen digitization processes to convert paper NWI maps into
files that are ready to use by a CAD (Computer Aided Drafting/Design) or
GIS (Geographic Information Systems) software applications. The result is a file
that is correctly separated into layers and attributed. If the map is to be
integrated with existing data, the data is provided into the client
specified map projection. The conversion is "seamless"
which means that we use your standards and conventions when creating the
data.
DDS can act as consultants during the specification stage to assist
in defining the optimum solution, then define a conversion process to
economically complete the project. Our customer-focused approach to this
business is built around two simple principles; on-time-delivery and a
100% quality guarantee.
