Texas Land Survey Data

Overview- Public Land Survey System Data

DDS's Public Land Survey is a seamless, high-resolution database of Congressional Survey townships and sections that is ideal for base maps and plotting land ownership and leases. Data layers include Township and Section Boundaries. Tabular attributes include meridian, township, range, and section numbers. The Public Land Survey (also known as PLSS, Digital Land Grid, or Digitized Section, Township and Range) precisely overlays USGS Digital Orthophotos, Digital Raster Graphs, and Digital Elevation Data, making it useful for indexing and analysis.

Public Land Survey System Coverage Index

DDS has created a PLSS Coverage Index for Google Earth.  Want to know more about a specific location? Dive right in -- Google Earth™ combines satellite imagery, maps and the power of Google™ Search to put the world's geographic information at your fingertips.   NOTE: Texas is not on the Public Land Survey System.  To find Texas Survey Data, click here.

Data Source and Accuracy
DDS's Public Land Survey is digitized from USGS 1:24,000 series topographic maps using a highly accurate spatial averaging digitizing technique, which captures corner boundaries to +/- 40 foot accuracies. The Wyoming resurveys are included and Carter townships are used for Kentucky and Tennessee.

Using ESRI GIS technology, DDS has created polygonal coverages with attributes and map-friendly annotation. The resulting data are seamless across state and county boundaries and have clean polygons, layers, and annotation. The data can be displayed as annotated polygons, but are also optimized for well spotting and GIS queries.
