Migrate Your Paper, Film, and Aperture Card
Archives to a Digital Print Room Repository with
ScanDEX-IX
ScanDEX-IX is a scanning, indexing, archiving and
distribution system for vast document repositories.
With ScanDEX-IX you can scan your images, store and
index them in a database with an unlimited number of
fields for easy retrieval. Your images are stored as
files in sub-directories named by index field
values, i.e. project numbers. Various indexing
features are included: Automatically loads images to
be indexed, automatically zooms to area on image for
each field, use of default values and macros, etc.
ScanDEX-IX supports multiple scanners on a single
workstation to speed up the archiving process.
Multi-page management is also supported.
ScanDEX-IX works in three modes: Design, Insert
and Query.
In Design mode you can define your database and
index fields. You can link fields to areas in the
image and you can create macros to help simplify and
automate the indexing process.
In Insert mode you control the attached scanner(s),
via direct device interface or virtual disk scanner,
and perform the indexing with help from the system.
Feed the scanner and index later, or index while you
scan – the choice is yours. If you have Aperture
Cards with Hollerith punch codes, then the indexing
can be done automatically. You only need to feed the
Aperture Card scanner(s).
In Query mode you can work with the archive.
There is a user-friendly browser with a quickview
facility where you can view the contents of the
archive. You can search for records that fulfill
specific criteria, make changes to your archive,
version records and design your own queries.
Browser Based Sharing with Search, View and
Print Tool
Imagine enabling every person in your department
with the ability to find, see, and print any
document they need at any time and at any place. The
ScanDEX-IX web browser-based Scan Controller
unleashes the power of internetworking, database
connectivity, and document rendering, allowing easy
quality control of your entire archive.
Automated Document Indexing using Text Zones
and OCR
The ScanDEX-IX document indexing module loads
documents into databases using the fastest methods
and using as few steps as possible. Text zones can
be defined within title blocks to capture attribute
data using OCR, or manually using “heads-up”
data entry. Batch document processing such as
alignment, rotation, cleanup de-speckling, mirroring
and inversion can be performed automatically during
the indexing process using macro definitions.
Archive Projects to CD and DVD
ScanDEX-IX allows you to be accountable by
permitting publishing of self-contained CD and DVD
archives of your projects with embedded search,
view, and print tools. This allows the document data
to behave on the disc the way it did when it was on
line. This is a great idea for long-time storage of
projects and documents that are no longer required
to be on-line, or for the distribution and delivery
of document data to remote parties, instead of
overnight shipment of heavy paper prints.
Not Just TIFF
ScanDEX-IX supports many document file formats. Does
your company have just TIFF files? Probably not.
ScanDEX-IX supports the kinds of files you already
have on file like PDF, Office documents, DWF, DWG,
DGN, Adobe PhotoShop, Mr. SID and JPEG-2000 formats
just to name a few.
Supports Native CAD, Office, and Imaging
Formats
Because ScanDEX-IX supports native document and
imaging file formats, there is no costly publishing
procedure when posting a file. Files are simply
indexed into an archive repository with document
attribute data.
Share Costly Wide Format Network Printers and
Plotters
Anyone in your company will be able to quickly
assemble a document set and submit to a network
printer or plotter. ScanDEX-IX even collates the job
with the first page on top and the last page on the
bottom of the stack eliminating costly sorting time
at the document output tray of the printer.
Open Microsoft Access Database
ScanDEX-IX runs on a familiar Microsoft Access
database making it easy to implement and achieve
maximum efficiency. Expand to SQL Server or Oracle,
when the time is right.
Run Multiple Databases
ScanDEX-IX does not restrict your application to one
single vault or repository. You can setup a number
of document database archives with no imposed limit
on number of records or number of fields. When
designing the creation of your archive database, you
can determine what field attribute information is
captured, or use a standard template for your type
of industry. Archive databases can reside on the
ScanDEX-IX host workstation or on a network file
server.
OCR Module
The Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Module is an
add-on to ScanDEX-IX. With the OCR package and with
the index fields linked to areas in the image you
can extract the text into the fields manually or
automatically. The OCR Package enables you to fully
automate the scanning, indexing and storing of your
drawings and documents.
Scan2Plan
With ScanDEX-IX you can scan directly to your Plan
Room in real time. Scanning and indexing project
documents have never been easier. Upgradeable to
Enterprise Document Management and Plan Room
Applications Extend your document management
application to your partners or your business
community by upgrading when the time is right.
ScanDEX-IX upgrade modules are available that add
notification, communication, and even credit card
transaction processing capabilities to your ScanDEX-IX
solution.
Easy Setup and Implementation Means Quick ROI
ScanDEX-IX can be installed, functional, connected
to your data and your key people trained in less
than a day. Our training programs allow you to
select the appropriate method and amount of time
that fit your budget and schedule, whether on-site
or on-line.
Low Cost of Ownership
Our flexible licensing models, subscription options,
and financing programs make ScanDEX-IX the easy
choice to document enable a department or your
entire organization.

What is IntraNETIX?
IntraNETIX is an instant intranet (in-house) or
Extranet (Internet accessible) server software which
allows you to search, retrieve, view and print your
large format drawings (CAD, engineering,
manufacturing, etc.), maps, graphics, and small
format office documents. IntraNETIX provides web
access to documents stored in heterogeneous
environments: PC, Unix, Novell, Mac, etc. IntraNETIX
is easy to install and use.
Is IntraNETIX Cost Effective?
Yes, because there is no licensing limit on the
number of users; there is no licensing limit of the
number of documents; and IntraNETIX is modular, so
you purchase just what you need. IntraNETIX is also
time effective. The database or file folders are
quickly populated giving users immediate access.to
drawings and documents.
What Can We Use IntraNETIX For?
- Browser access of network documents
- Projects: collaboration with shared data, bid
documents
- Document Management: Database indexing of
active, released and archival documents
- Document distribution and delivery links to
documents can be emailed instead of sending
large documents as attachments.
How Do We Use IntraNETIX for Our Projects?
For project management, IntraNETIX allows you to
store your documents in web accessible file
folders. IntraNETIX allows you to customize
color and text themes and banners for the
project owner or client; or customizable themes
can be implemented per user, per group or per
server. Data can be posted/updated by users with
upload permissions via their browser. Files can
also be maintained via network, i.e., Windows
Explorer. Folders can contain nested
sub-folders, usually indicating a discipline,
i.e., Architectural, Structural, Electrical,
Mechanical, Specification: or a topic, i.e.,
invoices, payments, letters, etc. Users drill
down through folders to hunt and pick the file
they want to access.
How Do We Use IntraNETIX for Our Document
Management?
Network documents are indexed to one or more
databases; there is no limit on the number of
databases. The databases can be any that are
ODBC supported and can be hosted on PC, Unix or
Linux. ODBC databases include Oracle, MS SQL
Server, and MS Access. IntraNETIX allows
integration to PDM vaults. The databases can be
maintained using RasterID, MS Access and other
tools. Database schemas are defined by the
customer. Users locate documents by entering
known search criteria in a query screen. Results
can be sorted, i.e., drawing number, revision
number. Revision sorting can be restricted to
the most current revision.
How Do We Get Our Documents into IntraNETIX?
- Documents can be scanned and indexed with
RasterID
- Existing files can be indexed using the Disk
Scanner function in RasterID
- For the technically savvy, existing files can
be automatically indexed with IX Builder, using
rules defined in scripts
Is There a Shopping Cart Facility?
Yes. Users select documents and add them to
their User Set in their web browser. Users see
the same Print interface, regardless of the
target device. Users can apply different print
settings to individual items in their User Set.
Do We Need an Additional RIP in Order to
Print?
No. IntraNETIX contains a RIP module. I/RIP is
extremely powerful because it processes native
document files, in addition to PDLs (Print
Files); this eliminates a time consuming task of
creating a print file from the native
application software. I/RIP can handle many
different printer devices throughout an
organization, with rendered output predictably
the same. I/RIP outputs directly to popular
large format printers such as KIP, Oce, XES, as
well as inkjet plotters and small format office
printers. I/RIP can print centrally from the
server directly or to a device freeing the
workstation (Intranet); OR, I/RIP can process a
print job into a multi-page TIFF or PDF and
deliver it back to the web browser client for
local printin(Extranet or internal local
printer).
I/RIP can print forward, reverse, collated and
un-collated sets. It can process multi-page
documents and the user can assign a page range
to a document for printing. Banner stamps can be
added.
How is IntraNETIX Administration Handled?
- IntraNETIX meters all viewing, downloading and
printing.
- Allowances can be assigned to each user, if
desired.
- Access to modules are granted in IntraNETIX
Administration
- Access to projects and databases are granted
to users by adding icon links
- Other access and permissions are assigned in
Windows NT or 2000.
What About Security?
- Existing network passwords and permissions

What is WiseImage Pro
WiseImage Pro is a powerful hybrid drawing editor
and raster to vector converter designed around the
new Windows XP-style interface. Hybrid drawings
consist of monochrome, grayscale, and color raster
images overlaid with vector elements. Multiple
raster images can be loaded and the number of raster
images handled simultaneously is unlimited.
WiseImage Pro allows you to edit, update, and
convert (both semi-automatically and automatically)
to vectors scanned maps, drawings, sketches, and
other graphics. With WiseImage Pro you can:
- Vector (CAD) drawings can be imported into
WiseImage Pro or exported to DWG, DXF, and DGN
vector formats
- Easily convert raster lines into vector
objects
- On-the-fly vectorization of specific areas
- Color separation tool for separating color on
various layers for easy vectorization
- Clean up raster noise through a selection of
filters including smoothing, thickening and
thinning, speckle removal, and hole filling
- Edit raster symbols with the raster object
selection feature that enables you to select
raster lines, arcs, and circles using tools
similar to those for vector selection.
- Create raster copies of vector objects and add
them to the raster image.
All of these features are easy to use. WiseImage Pro
runs outside of AutoCAD and doesn't require a CAD
manager to use the software.
Works with Color and Grayscale Raster Images
WiseImage Pro allows you to crop color and grayscale
raster images, change their resolution and scale,
deskew them, and eliminate linear and non linear
deformations using the calibration feature. You can
change brightness, contrast, hue and saturation,
adjust the color gamut of image using a histogram,
improve image quality and apply a set of color
filters (Blur, Unsharp, Mask, Median). With
WiseImage Pro, you can draw on these images and
create raster objects by rasterizing vector objects
to color raster, and merge monochrome raster images
with color ones.
New Tracing Capabilities
WiseImage Pro has an advanced tracing function
(semi-automatic, interactive raster to vector
conversion) for color and grayscale images. In
addition to simple graphic object tracing in
WiseImage Pro, you can now trace raster shapes that
correspond to vecor templates. Select a raster shape
and WiseImage will recognize it and match it to the
appropriate vector object from the loaded symbol
(block) library or a customized library designed by
you to match your requirements. The polyline tracing
feature has a new auto-detection of tracing
direction. For instance, if you have not chosen a
direction during a specified waiting interval, then
the program will continue tracing in the
automatically defined direction by itself.
Automatic Raster to Vector Conversion
WiseImage Pro enables the conversion of scanned
drawings to CAD files one by one or in a batch mode,
even overnight. This conversion feature allows
precise tuning to achieve the most accurate vector
representation of the source files. Or, it can be
done on-the-fly bya new "R2V Controls"
toolbar. The original line styles, widths, text
height and hatch styles are preserved. The result of
the vectorization consists of lines, polylines,
arcs, circles, text and shapes (blocks). WiseImage
Pro has a built-in OCR feature (use with optional
external ABBYY FineReader OCR plug-in) that
recognizes text strings at any angle on a drawing.
Vector Enhancement Tools
WiseImage Pro has a comprehensive set of tuning
tools for auto-correction of vectors obtained after
raster to vector conversion. There are specialized
functions for editing vectors such as merging a
group of vectors to the object of a given type (some
segments to an arc or circle), cropping, extension,
etc. One very powerful tool is Vector Object Search
and Replace, which works on vectors (CAD files). For
example, it is possible to find and replace all
fasteners on mechanical drawings or all windows and
doors on a floor plan with standard symbols.
Flexible User Interface
WiseImage Pro gives users the ultimate flexibility
by allowing them to create their working environment
for the software by altering the layout or removing
unnecessary commands and buttons. With WiseImage Pro
users can configure their own toolbars and menus.
WiseImage Pro runs under Windows 98, NT 4.0, 2000,

New Tracing Capabilities
To Convert a raster symbol, line, arc, circle or
outline to a vector object, a user only has to pick
a point on the source raster object. The tracing
mode can be set to retain, delete or smooth the
original raster object. WiseImage can also recognize
raster hatches and trace arbitrary raster curves by
AutoCAD polylines. When tracing polylines, the
program can automatically define the most probable
trace direction.
Automatic Raster to Vector Conversion
When applying automatic vectorization, the user
needs to set recognition parameters before starting
the procedure. WiseImage for AutoCAD recognizes and
converts to corresponding vector objects raster
lines, arcs, circles, symbols, points, polylines,
outlines and hatches. The program recognizes raster
line types, widths, and dimension arrows. The
results of the automatic vectorization ofter require
further correction - this can be done automatically
with tools that will merge vector fragments, create
orthogonal lines, and round objects wiedths to
specific values. Resulting vector objects can then
be separated by weight, AutoCAD layers and color.
During automatic raster to vector conversion,
WiseImage for AutoCAD converts raster texts to
AutoCAD text entities. It is also possible to
convert raster texts to polylines or outlines. The
program can be easily taught to recognize new text
characters. You can also use external OCR modules.

Use with IDEAL/Contex Scanners ALE Technology
WiseImage Pro GEO can drive all models of IDEAL/Contex
scanners, thus reducing system cost by eliminating
the need for additional scanner operating software.
IDEAL/Contex Scanners offer Accuracy Lens
Enhancement (ALE) technology for our entire range of
scanners. While most scanner manufacturers
state+-0.1% accuracy between the two end-points of
the scan line, (ALE) is an electronic correction of
spherical errors in CCD based camera-scanning
systems, which enables IDEAL/Contex scanners to
maintain precision across any two points of the scan
line. GIS professionals require a high grade of
precision stability in the scanned image with a
well-defined maximum deviation of 0.1% or less.
IDEAL/Contex scanners exceed, even the most rigid
requirements in the industry today.
Document Management
Use WiseImage Pro GEO to edit scanned maps or to
convert to vector files as needed. Then, upload and
archive the most current revision back on the
intranet or the Internet using ScanDEX-IX for
departmental access and viewing or Online PlanRoom
for enterprise-wide access and viewing.
